INTRODUCING: DELPHINE DELAFON

In case you haven’t heard, the comeback of the bucket bag has made headlines throughout the fashion world. And while for some the handbag is an essential practical accessory, for others is a mere statement – at times, eccentric – accessory. After all, it’s the little details that make a big difference. This is what drew us today to talk to you about Delphine Delafon, a handbag company which embodies French chic and elegance honoring the hand-made tradition and valuing eclectic, luxurious pieces.

Having worked in the fashion industry with designers like Carven, Michel Klein and Irié for more than a decade, Delphine Delafon co-founded Heimstone in 2007, where she worked for three years. Afterwards, while working as a freelancer, she started making bags for herself, which her friends and acquaintances soon began to notice. And then came the press; and then came the clientele.

In Delafon’s line, everything revolves around one handbag style and one style only, the most coveted of the season: the bucket bag. She carefully collects all textiles and accessories she uses herself – high-quality leather and suede, fine fabrics, exotic skins and gold delicate chains, pexiglass, kilim, studs, neons and fringes. This plethora of materials provides a variety of options for everyone to choose.

All pieces are manufactured with exquisite craftsmanship in her Parisian workshop. Delphine Delafon defies mass-market and offers her line of products to anyone with a deep appreciation for the hand-made – each bag may take up to six hours to make – and the unique. Hence, the bags are all numbered.

Delafon recently collaborated with the ethical brand Muzungu Sisters for the creation of a handbag made of antique handwoven Peruvian textile handpicked exclusively for this collaboration by the Sisters duo, reworked into a bucket-shape bag with calf-skin shell by Delafon herself.
